A Splitwise alternative
If you landed here looking for another expense-splitting app, this is what you'll find. No made-up comparisons: just what Cuentas Claras does.
Free, no ads. It also works from your browser: install it on your phone.
What Cuentas Claras is
An app for splitting shared expenses between friends, partners, flatmates or travel companions. You note who paid what and it tells you who owes whom, with the fewest payments needed to square up. It's on Google Play and the App Store, and it works from a browser too.
About comparisons
You won't find a "we do, they don't" table here. Other apps' features and terms change, and an out-of-date comparison misleads whoever reads it. What follows is what this one does, so you can decide.
Where the effort went
Eleven languages
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic and Chinese — plus Galician, Catalan and Basque. The app picks up your phone's language on its own.
Snap the receipt
Photograph the receipt and the app reads the lines so you can assign them one by one, with their VAT, to whoever had them. It's the most used feature. Premium, with a 14-day trial.
Settling with double confirmation
A payment isn't taken on trust because someone says so: the person owed confirms it. That's the difference between "I think it's done" and "it's done".
Worth knowing before you switch
- Groups from other apps can't be imported. Start with a new trip or a new month rather than bringing over your history.
- Not everyone has to switch. You can add people without an account and their expenses still count.
- It's a young app. Published in 2026, fixed quickly: there's a button inside the app to report problems, and they get answered.
Frequently asked questions
Can I import my groups from another app?
Not yet. The practical move is to start with a new group — a trip or a month — rather than bringing over your history.
Is it free?
Yes, and ad-free. Creating groups, adding expenses, seeing balances and settling up cost nothing. Receipt scanning, the place map, stats and unlimited groups are Premium, with a 14-day trial.
Is it on iPhone and Android?
Both, and it also works from a browser without installing anything.
What happens to my data?
It's yours, and GDPR is respected. You can delete your account from inside the app, under Settings.
